The Vaglie wine cellars were born through the insight and passion of Alessandro Lumini to produce wine, which is one of the most important products in the Umbria area and is synonymous for quality and excellence all over the world. In 1997, Vaglie was a small family vineyard situated in the city centre of Baschi, between the hills of Orvieto and Todi. The wine production was begun to honor the native grapes and to rediscover the ancient flavors. The main aim was to create an excellent and affordable product which combines the tradition of the area and the young entrepreneurial spirit that led the founders to create a commercial outlet for direct distribution to the consumer. Beginning in 1999, they opened the first shop managed directly by the family, featuring only the Vaglie label. Today the farm boasts an area of 115 hectares that was deliberately situated between the Baschi area, where there is sedimentary soil more suitable for production of red grapes, and the hill area, situated just north of Orvieto in Canale, where the soil is volcanic and more suitable for white grapes. The business decided to build a modern grape pressing facility in Canale, equipped with the most modern wine processing technology and capable of processing 55.000 quintals of grapes per year. This centre receives not only grapes that come from the Orvieto DOP vineyards, but also grapes from all over the Umbria region. During the last ten years, the business has become both a development of agricultural enterprise and development of the great commercial politic begun in 1999: “Podere Vaglie” in this way has created seventeen direct management dealers, both in central and in northern Italy. Moreover, for the last four years it has adopted another marketing system: door to door. In this way it is capable of supplying families all over Umbria and Tuscia using three delivery vans. Development and marketing demands have forced Podere Vaglie to find other commercial outlets, both on the national and the international levels. This goal was achieved in 2009 in the embodiment of the biggest wine bottling and storage centre in Umbria. Thanks to Podere Vaglie, it was possible to create more job opportunities as they were able to offer third party processing and bottling and also offer the production of Montefalco Rosso DOP and Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG wines, which are the most important expressions of the Umbria area. Their facility boasts large capacity production thanks to its 15,000-square-metre size and the modern technologies that define it. We find a specialized analysis laboratory, modern tools and machinery in the wine cellar, capable of processing 60,000 hectolitres of wine, and four bottling assembly lines, capable of processing about 1,000 hl. of wine a day. There are also a large warehouse and two large cellars for regular barrels and another for barrels where the prestigious wines age. During the last phase of development, Podere Vaglie has organized a distribution system that uses its own available means and utilizes a courier that works in all national, international and intercontinental areas.
